Rapid immunoassay for the detection of prostate specific antigen

What is it?

PROSTA-Check ® is a specific rapid immunoassay for prostate antigen (PSA) detection. The PSA level indicates the prostate physiological state. A level higher than 4 ng/mL indicates prostatic hypertrophy the cause of which may be benign (prostatitis) or cancerous (adenocarcinoma). The PSA level is assessed within 10 minutes with only one blood drop.

When should the immunoassay be performed?

The test can be performed at any time in the following cases:

• For men aged over 50 years of age
• For men with a family history of prostate cancer

Those men are encouraged to have a test performed every year. Together with a digital rectal examination and/or ultrasonography, PSA is a key element in early prostate cancer screening.

  A study performed in 2008 in Tyrol (Austria) where PSA screening is systematically undertaken, showed deaths due to prostate cancer were 54% lower than those for the rest of Austria.
